Internet phobia

It never ceases to amaze me, how irrational peoples fears and self doubts can be. Some things, like a fear of death and extremely dangerous situations are I suppose completely normal. In a war zone situation, even the bravest of soldiers will usually admit that at least in hindsight they were actually terrified. It is only the strict discipline of their training that allows then to function in extreme circumstances. When it comes to a fear of the world wide web, it seems that some people,my wife included, can not even bring themselves to connect to the internet. They will happily play offline games and use a laptop as a word processor, but play online games, use facebook, or use email, no chance. Is it a fear of the unknown or the idea that the whole world is watching and stalking their every move? Perhaps the neighbours are watching which websites they are using?
My wife even has a facebook account, set up by me of course.
Whenever she wants to contact family members or find out what the grandchildren are up to, guess who logs in and shows her the latest news and photo's etc. how crazy is that? Added to her fear of water, fear of cats, fear of the dark, she is one very fearful lady!
